WHAT'S NEW IN MORRO BAY?

Scenic Highway 1 from Monterey to Morro Bay is Now Open

As of July 2018, for the first time in 18 months, the entire cliff side road is completely open! Now, we want to shout it from the roof tops! Hotels, shops, restaurants, attractions, and the people living along the central coast want everyone to know that we are ready for visitors from Highway 1. On the way to Morro Bay, make sure to stop in at Hearst Castle for a tour, and pop your head in across the street at the Hearst Ranch Winery to try one of their wines. Just keep driving until you see Morro Rock jutting out of the water and you’ve arrived in this incredibly quaint coastal town offering a plethora of lodging properties to meet any budget.

Iconic Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle Reopens

Located just 30 minutes from Morro Bay, the iconic Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle is once again ready for its close-up after being drained and closed for four years to repair leaks and restore statues.

Workers began refilling the pool with water on Tuesday, August 14, marking the end of a $10 million renovation at the 115 room former San Simeon home of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst. The pool, which reflects elements of Roman and Greek styles, is one of two pools at Hearst Castle. The other is the Roman Pool, a smaller indoor pool ringed by statues of gods and goddesses. Tours of Hearst Castle start at $25 per person and should be reserved in advance. The California historical monument receives about 750,000 visitors every year.

WHAT'S FRESH IN SEASON IN MORRO BAY?

Morro Bay’s small commercial fishing fleet is known for its focus on sustainable practices, and for its daily charter fishing tours. For the temperate fall and winter months the following marine species can be found unloaded along the docks up and down the harbor.  Also, Morro Bay has two fresh fish markets owned by local fishing families – can’t get much fresher than that! Or, take your group on one of these sport fishing excursions in Morro Bay and catch your own fish of the day!
